For anyone experiencing anxiety, overthinking or panic attacks – or maybe, like my 16 year old client who used to experience all 3 on a regular weekly basis – these uncontrollable thoughts can be totally debilitating. You can be left wondering how it got so bad and how and when will it stop?
This story may be all too familiar but the ending should bring reassurance that life doesn’t need to be like this and you can be free from such agonising episodes for good!
Exam panic attacks
My lovely, outgoing 16 year old client with mock exams looming was regularly suffering with anxious thoughts that escalated into to overthinking on far too many occasions. This in turn led to full blown panic attacks that had become very scary.
Simply put, anxious, fearful, worrying thoughts!
The fear she may do something embarrassing.
Scared that she may not be able to answer a question.
Frightened that she may fail.
These thoughts triggered real, physiological symptoms.
An understanding but not a solution
Her school was very understanding. They provided her with a card that she could raise whenever she found the physiological symptoms getting beyond her control. One less worry, she could escape class.
On the good weeks she was able to manage these anxious thoughts and feelings. She could calm her fears. However, on the bad weeks she may need to raise the card and rush from the room on several occasions, as the feelings within her body became so scary – erratic breathing, excessively hot, nausea and feeling faint.
With mock exams looming, something desperately need to change.

Hypnotherapy for panic attacks
As a last resort – they had tried other avenues of help and support – her mother made contact with me.
Naturally, she was very concerned for her daughter. They had tried various treatments. Whilst her daughter had experienced some improvements and had adopted some techniques to try and prevent the feelings from escalating, the anxious thoughts and the feelings they evoked were just too much to bear.
Her mother was keen to get an appointment booked as soon as possible. Despite the physical distance between us hypnosis could still be carried out on Zoom. Therefore, we arranged our first panic attack hypnotherapy session.
However, I needed and wanted to speak to my client to ensure she believed hypnotherapy was a technique that she felt happy to experience. I wanted her words describing the thoughts and feelings that were plaguing her life. Most importantly, I wanted her to imagine and describe to me exactly how she would think, feel and how her life would be as a result of hypnotherapy.
Panic attack hypnotherapy review
At the end of our first session, the feedback was “that was kind of weird” – relaxing and calming too. Hypnotherapy is different for everyone; weird on this occasion appeared to have good connotations and vibes.
My client experienced a week where there were far less anxiety attacks. When the feelings did start, she felt in control of them and prevented it from escalating. However, with the initial success, my client now firmly believed that life could be even better so requested another session.
Here’s what she wrote to me:
I was a bit sceptical at first but Moira created a relaxed and safe place for me, and after only a few sessions, I felt much calmer and in control. I’m really glad I tried it and I would recommend Moira to anyone, she is brilliant!
If you are suffering with panic attacks bought on by any anxiety or stress then get in touch to discuss how I can help. Don’t let hypnotherapy be a last resort. Hypnotherapy for panic attacks can be highly effective and extremely beneficial.
